1. When I grew up, I wanted to be a teacher. I used to line my stuffed animals up and teach them as if I was teaching in school. I would even give them tests and homework assignments. Storytime was my favorite part of any lesson, as I would read my storybooks to them.

2. I also wanted to be a writer. I always had a new story idea. I loved how words could translate my thoughts so others could step inside my wild imagination. Through writing, I could travel back in time to worlds I had never known, explore ideas far bigger than myself, and make sense of the emotions that shaped me.

My Teaching Resources

This year has brought an incredible milestone:

Through my ESL teaching role in China, I have been asked to create a new curriculum inspired by my new series, Unnatural Disasters. I am developing the curriculum right now and teaching it as I go. The finished lesson plans will cover every type of natural disaster, offering teaching resources such as full lesson plans, workbooks, classroom project ideas, homework assignments, tests, videos and other media sources. Oh yeah, don't forget the power point presentation for each lesson will also be included.

I can't wait until it is finished so I can share it you. Stay tuned here for updates.

Offer a Helping Hand Whenever You Can...

This year I teamed up with local volunteers to help families begin the long process of recovery after an E4 tornado ripped through homes in Enid, OK, leaving behind a trail of devastation.

Moments like these remind me that resilience is built not only through emergency response, but through compassion, presence, and simply the willingness to show up when people need it most. Whether clearing debris, delivering supplies, or simply listening to survivors share their stories, every act of service becomes part of a community’s healing.

I believe deeply in standing with those who have endured loss — and in helping rebuild hope, one home and one neighborhood at a time.

I met some great folks this week and I thank you all for sharing your stories with me.

If you get an opportunity, help your fellow neighbor who has experienced a natural disaster. You never know when the tables turn and it is you needing that support.

Write with Purpose

Write to guide without preaching, to illuminate without overwhelming, and to create space where readers can see themselves more clearly.

Write with courage, revise with humility, and remember that every page is a conversation between you and the reader.

And at the center of it all: keep writing in such a way that lifts, steadies, and inspires—because someone out there needs your words—Give them those words that they long for.
